The Aeroplane

Recently , I was thinking about some rhyming words and I made a discovery. It seems I am good at poetry....!!! Do you agree...?

        Check out this poem solely written by me -

 <img src="Aeroplane.jpg" alt="Aeroplane Poem" />

An Aeroplane soars in the sky
Have you ever wondered why;
To some it seems to be magic black
Infact it is a Scientific knack !

The engines that make the aeroplane soar
Tremendous power they outpour;
The most important mechanical things
Are the Aero - Dynamic wings !

Fuselage - All other parts it holds
The shape of the aeroplane it beautifully moulds;
At the end of aeroplane is the tail
It helps the aeroplane to smoothly sail.

The other parts of the aeroplane are
Stabilizer , Landing gear and Propeller;
Dihedral is an important thing
It is the bended shape of wing.

The Science behind the Aeroplane's flight
Now I'll tell you so please sit tight;
Forces acting on Aeroplane are
Lift , Thrust , Drag and Weight by far !

Lift helps uplift the Aeroplane
But Weight makes the altitude drain !
Thrust pushes the plane forward
While Drag makes the motion blurred.

For the aeroplane to soar in the air
There are two conditions in pair;
Lift greater than Weight , Drag lesser than Thrust
And then the Aeroplane fly must !

Aeroplane manufacturers are ever growing
Like Airbus , Comac and Boeing;
In simple words I can explain
Aeroplane is a classic thing to claim !

Hot Air Balloon in Dubai

                In Diwali vacations this year (2015) I visited Dubai for tourism. It is a very systematic and modern country. The roads are mostly 6 lanes by 6 lanes. Metro system is very efficient. And as you know, they got a lot of oil, so plenty of cars. Transportation in all is awesome.
                The buildings are as tall as they can be built. Burj Khalifa is an excellent example for that. The population is very less and majority of workers are coming from countries other than Dubai. New enormous constructions are on the way as Dubai is preparing for 'Expo 2020'.

Ok...enough talking about Dubai. Lets get to the point.

              We had planned the famous Hot Air Balloon ride in our time in Dubai. We had to wake up at 4:00 AM as the pickup was at 5:00 AM. To reach the starting place, we had to travel for nearly an hour. The temperature was cold and there was still no sign of the sun.
               That's when we saw the 'Hot Air Balloon'. It was a looking like a giant sheet of nylon which had to be inflated by a giant pump. It was attached to a small basket for us to stand in. I had never seen anything like that before. It was the simplest of all flying objects.

              Finally we jumped in the basket and took off. It was scary..it felt like the ground just cleared away below my feet. We flew to a height of 4000 ft just standing in that open basket. It was shivering cold up there but the scenery was awesome. We flew over the desert and could see some wild gazelles. For a full one hour we flew in whatever direction the wind took us. Basically there was no steering control to the balloon. It flew with the wind. That's why there was no fixed landing spot.

               The captain finally started searching for a suitable landing spot right in the middle of the desert ! The wind-speed was a little more so we had a bumpy landing. My head almost whammed into a bush while landing but somehow I managed to get myself out of the way. The huge balloon got deflated in an instant after the landing.

It was an awesome experience. Really a 'Must Try' at least once in your life.

Hats off to Hot Air Balloon ! Hats off to Dubai !

Tips for Creating Model Aeroplanes

Aeroplanes attract the attention of all crazy people like me. We all know there are hundreds of videos about creating model aeroplane on the internet.
  • A point to be noted is that creating a model aeroplane is really not as easy as it seems.
Making a model is not the difficult part but making the model fly like a real aeroplane is where most people get stuck. Then the common questions arise -
  • Why doesn't my model aeroplane fly ?
  • What should I do to make my model aeroplane fly ?
So today I will give you some tips that I am sure will help you in creating a model aeroplane that actually flies.

Step 1 ( Material )

Decide the material you will be using to make the model aeroplane -

  1. Styrofoam, paper - For indoor flight. Lightweight and slow models.
  2. Balsa wood, cardboard - For Outdoor fast flying models.
  3. Aluminium or carbon fiber - For super-efficient outdoor sturdy models.
The most commonly used material for making model aeroplanes in balsa wood but in my opinion, we can make very lightweight but sturdy models using styrofoam. These models require less power to fly and hence fly for long distances very efficiently.

    Step 2 ( The build )

This is the most important part. The way you build your model aeroplane will affect how it will fly to the greatest extent.
Remember -

  • The length of the wings should be perfect -  too long will increase the weight of the model whereas very short wings will not be able to produce enough lift to get the aeroplane to fly.
  • The fuselage must be extremely sturdy but lightweight. It must hold the shape of the model and prevent any part of the aeroplane from moving unnecessarily.
  • The dihedral is very important. It makes the aeroplane stable when in air and prevents in from tipping over to either of the sides.
  • No matter how many parts are attached to the model aeroplane, it should be well balanced. That is, The centre of gravity must always be perfectly in the middle of the fuselage. If either of the front or the tail section of the model is overweight it will not fly.
  • Similarly you must ensure that both sides of the aeroplane are symmetrical.
While building the model, attaching all the separate parts, try to keep the structure as simple as possible. Don't complicate the model but building complex and small parts.

TIP - The lesser the number of parts, better the model aeroplane will fly.

Step 3 ( Designing )

This step is where you will give your model aeroplane, the look you desire on it. Feel free to paint the model as you want but make sure you use only one layer of paint. This will reduce the weight of the model aeroplane and help in making it fly for a longer period.

  • Take care while adding certain complex parts to the aeroplane. Try to keep the model as simple as possible.

     Step 4 ( Trimming )

Trimming is very important to make the model aeroplane fly at its best. And to be clear, this is the most tedious and time consuming part. You will require a lot of patience during this stage. At some point it may also feel that the aeroplane will never fly. Its just useless. Well, thats certainly not the case. With the right trimming, I'm sure the aeroplane will soar in the air.

Remember - The moment you finish building the aeroplane, it will not fly as you wish.

  • Make sure that the model has smooth surfaces. Avoid any bumps and try to maintain a flat model except for the dihedral which will give stability to the aeroplane.
  • The best way to trim a model aeroplane is by taking test flights. Test the model several times to see what actually is going wrong. Then focus on the wrong part and try to fix it. This will take time but do not lose patience.
  • Prevent any part of the model from moving from its position but whlie doing this, make sure you do not increase the weight of the model aeroplane.

I hope this all will help you in building a model aeroplane in a short span of time. Just remember to be patient while building the model and I'm sure the results will be mindblowing.

So go on..............build our own model aeroplane !!!

Paper Helicopter

You may have made paper aeroplanes....

But making a paper helicopter is not that easy.
Well then , you are wrong. Today is your lucky day !!!
In this article , I will show you how to make a paper helicopter from a single strip of paper and a scissor. Yes , Just a SINGLE strip of paper.

To make this , just follow to simple steps given below.
(For better understanding , refer to diagram given below.)

  1. Cut a strip of paper approximately 10cm. in length and approximately 2cm. in breadth.
  2. Cut the strip from the center of one of the small sides to the center of the strip parallel to its length.
  3. Cut the strip from both sides on the length . The cut must be approximately 10mm. long.
  4. Fold the bottom half till the center from both sides parallel to the length.
  5. Fold the two upper halves each to opposite sides and make a curve.

See how simple it is...!!!
